How To Install String Curtains

String curtains are easy to install yourself, so there is no need to hire a professional to do the job.

Before installing the string curtains, ensure that you have some essential equipment to hand first. You will need the following:

  • Drill
  • Ladder
  • Screwdriver and screws
  • Hooks for curtain rods
  • Inserts
  • Plumb line
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil

When you install your string curtains, you should be aiming to have them just about touching the floor, not too long, not too short. Once you have ascertained the right height, mark it with a pencil. This is where the hooks will be placed.

Mark a straight line across the distance that you want the curtains to cover. This is where the rod with hooks will go. Drill holes where the hooks will go, and place the inserts into them. Now put the screws and hooks in, and hammer them home. Once you have done this, you can position the rod.

The final stage is to attach the curtains to the rod. This can be very easy if they have a special header at the top, as all you need to do is attach the header to the road., If they do not have this, then you will have to tie each string to the rod, using the loops at the head of the string.

Once the string curtains are attached to the rod, simply fix the rod to the hooks, and you are done.

For extra functionality, install tie backs so you can hold the curtains open. The process is similar regardless of where you are installing the string curtains, be it a doorway, window, mounted on a wall as decoration, or as a room divider.

If you are relatively inexperienced when it comes to do it yourself projects, then it is always advisable to seek the services of a professional, or ask a friend or relative who knows what they are doing to help you. The last thing you want is to damage your walls and curtains, or be left with a decoration that is sub standard looking. You want to get the most out of your string curtains, so ensuring the job is done professionally is the best way to do this. However if you are competent with this type of project, there is no reason why you cannot quickly and cheaply complete the installation of the string curtains yourself.
